    Intent

    • An understanding of the important concepts and an ability to make connections within mathematics.
    • A broad range of skills in using and applying mathematics.
    • Fluent knowledge and recall of number facts and the number system.
    • Fluency in performing written and metal calculations.
    • The ability to show initiative in solving problems in a wide range of contexts, reason, generalise and make sense of solutions.
    • The ability to think independently, persevere when faced with new challenges and to work with others to succeed.
    • To embrace the value of learning from mistakes.
    • A wide range of mathematics vocabulary.

    Implementation

    • Our long-term plan is based on White Rose Maths through Master the Curriculum
    • Planning is differentiated by year group in our mixed age classes.
    • Purposeful opportunities for mathematics are planned.
    • High quality resources support children’s understanding of maths at all stages.
    • Specific vocabulary teaching.
    • Cross-curricular consolidation and links with all subjects.
    • Children receive personalised fluency targets.
    • Children have regular opportunities to master the curriculum through deeper level learning.
    • Lessons consistent of fluency, reasoning and problem solving.
    • Where needed, gap targets are implemented.

    • All children make good or better progress.
    • Confident, resilient learners who can persevere when faced with problems.
    • An understanding and tolerance of diversity in our community and the world.
    • Rich vocabulary and strong understanding of mathematics.
